Jason Smith Junior Male Player of the Year Award

The Jason Smith Junior player of the year award is named after Former Australian Boomer captain
(and Vulture) Jason Smith. Jason attended Vermont Secondary College and played his junior career
for the Vermont Vultures Basketball Club in the GEBC competition. Jason is a 3-time NBL champion
(1996, 2004, and 2005), and NBL Grand Final MVP (2005), 2 times All NBL First Team (2001 and
2005), Best NBL sixth man (1998) and also won a Gold Medal with Australia at the Commonwealth
Games in 2006. Jason also Captained the Australian Boomers at the 2006 FIBA World Championship
in Japan.
The Jason Smith Junior Male Player of the Year award seeks to recognise Vultures who are most
likely to succeed in basketball and go onto play at the elite level. The award is given to those who
have achieved outstanding results in all aspects of basketball (Representative and/or state) over the
prior 12 months.
