Nunawading Basketball recognises the power of empowering females with the opportunity to develop confidence and conviction in themselves. As an ex-primary and secondary school teacher, I have seen many children over the years (females in particular) who struggle to believe in their own abilities and question their own abilities. To this day, I have never seen a better environment for individuals to develop a strong self-image and conviction than becoming a referee. We know this world needs more female leaders and this is an opportunity to start that leadership journey before many of your friends. We believe there are many barriers to females (particularly young females) becoming a referee and one of those is the group interview when filled with many males in the room, so we have decided to run an all female referee group interview for those wanting to try out to become a referee.
We are inviting any female at least 14 years of old to apply and attend our ALL FEMALE REFEREE GROUP INTERVIEW 3.30-5.30PM ON SUNDAY 23RD APRIL to potentially become a referee and join our team already with strong female leadership.
Don’t miss out to have a go as our next referee intake after this will be in July 2023 and open to everyone.
Refereeing gives players the unique perspective to understand the game from another perspective and can be a great way to improve your playing game.
Nunawading is offering a unique opportunity for current players, coaches and parents to join the refereeing team.
There are plenty of other reasons to become a Nunawading Basketball referee too:
- Develop skills in confidence, decision making, leadership and teamwork
- Participate in the sport in a new capacity
- Help raise the standard of the game and the Nunawading competition
- Develop a new group of friends across all ages
- Be paid to be involved in the sport and stay fit
Referee Training – Referees are an important part of the game, and our training program is one of the best in the country ensuring each trainee has a dedicated mentor and a thorough training process over 4 – 10 weeks until you are comfortable and independent. The training period usually takes around 40 matches in total, so the number of times training per week can speed up the number of weeks required.
Minimum Age – Anyone who applies must be at least 14 years of age.
Course Cost – The course costs $100 which includes a green referee training shirt, learning materials, whistle and lanyard. The theory component of the course will be online, however, there is an application process, and anyone wanting to try out must attend this group. Depending on the number of applicants, it may take up to 2 months to start on-court training but this group will be a priority over future group interviews.
Please make sure to apply online before attending
