GROUP INTERVIEW DETAILS

Where: Nunawading Stadium in the Hall of Fame room at the end of court 1

Group Interview #1: 6.00pm – 8.00pm on Thursday 18th April, or

Group Interview #2: 2.00pm – 4.00pm on Sunday 21st April

What to bring: Wear clothes you can run around in as we will have a practice game if a court is available

What is a group interview: We recognise that refereeing is not suited to anyone, it takes a level of confidence, fitness, decisiveness and basic communication skills to adapt to the environment. We also regularly have more people interested in becoming a referee then spots available. For this reason, we use a group interview to meet applicants and select those we believe are the best fit to be a referee.

Availability: Also, be aware that some people may be accepted due to their availability on a Friday and Saturday, which are spots that we need more referees. If you did select another night, for example Thursdays, and you are successful, your training might be put on hold until we have a shortage of referees on a Thursday as there is little point training you on a night we cannot offer you a spot on in the future. If you now wish to update your availability, let me know and I can update it for you.

What if I cannot attend? If you cannot attend this group interview, then we will hold onto your application until a future group interview, which we probably will not hold for a few months. Unfortunately, there is no flexibility available at this stage.

REFEREE TRAINING EXPECTATIONS

We have some expectations for any person who wishes to start their referee training at Nunawading:

1.                  They must commit to weekly Friday night referee training each week 5.00pm – 9.30pm.

2.                  After becoming an accredited referee they must commit to Friday and/or Saturday shifts for their future as a Nunawading referee.

3.                  During their referee training, they will be required to commit to a weekly senior’s shift on Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday with 11pm finishes. We understand that 11pm finishes can be late. However, they are a fixed part of our referee training schedule. If you’re unable to finish at this time, unfortunately, you won’t be able to complete the training.

If you believe you cannot commit to either of these, then please do not attend the group interview as these are not negotiable due to the demand for referees on our growing competitions and providing high quality referee training

BEGINNER REFEREE TRAINING DETAILS

If successful, there will be one future theory session for trainee referees to attend to review the online course. Trainees will then be paired with a mentor at the same time each week, and will continue their training with the same mentor for approximately 15-20 shifts until they are graded as a C Grade referee and awarded their striped shirt.
